Noel was responsible for the restoration of The Vineyard Chapel at the Winery when it was moved to the property from Kingaroy in 1997. Naturally, Noel was the first person contacted by the Winery's owners when they were considering purchasing the historic Auchenflower House for After viewing the building where it was at Early Street Historical Village in Norman Park, Noel determined that the building could be shifted successfully and so the wheels were set in motion for the move. 'Auchenflower' arrived at Tamborine House in January 1999, and Noel and his team set about the reconstruction and subsequent restoration.
Over a year later, Albert River Wines opened to the public for the first time in March 2000. Visitors marvel at the stately building with its soaring timber ceiling, polished floors, and timber-panelled ballroom.
Winery owners David & Janette Bladin also credit Noel with input into the design of Albert River Wines' distinctive diamond-shaped logo. When looking for a shape for the logo, Janette was inspired by the intricate timber parquetry mosaic Noel created in the middle of the tasting room floor! Upon completion of the project, Noel decided that the restoration of 'Auchenflower' was to be his builder's swan song and a fitting finale to a long career as a builder. The old site office Noel used during the construction was offered as a Wood Shoppe by the grateful owners who weren't ready to let him get away just yet! |
